A Midland-based translation company is the newest affiliate of Central Michigan University Research Corporation's Technology Business Accelerator Program.

Global Language Translations and Consulting Inc. offers low-cost technical translations by combining current machine translation technology with highly skilled human translators, said Doug Strock, GLTaC's vice president of market development.

The partnership will allow GLTaC to leverage various CMU resources, including international students, computer programmers and connections with potential customers.

"GLTaC is continuing to develop a variety of capabilities in the machine translation and machine-aided translation fields, in addition to its full human translation capability," Strock said. "CMU-RC has a complementary set of tools for data mining and providing content from the Internet that we felt would be an ideal combination of the two technologies."

Strock said he hopes GLTaC's partnership with CMU-RC will allow his company to develop its technologies for data mining and machine translations to their fullest extent in as many language pairs as possible, while continually seeking additional opportunities for application of both organizations' expertise in related areas.

"Since the initial discussions between GLTaC and CMU-RC, we have already identified several opportunities that we are pursuing and that we feel take good advantage of existing resources," he said.

"Global Language Translations and Consulting has obvious overlaps with the CMU Research Corporation's business intelligence activities," said Brent Case, CMU-RC's director of technology business development. "We are pleased to have GLTaC join our program as an affiliate company, which will benefit both organizations and provide opportunities for CMU faculty and students to become engaged with translation technologies."

CMU-RC, a not-for-profit organization, was established to facilitate innovative research and development opportunities between CMU and high-technology companies. As an affiliate member, GLTaC will maintain its Midland office while also utilizing university and CMU-RC resources. For more information on GLTaC, visit http://www.gltac.com.
