Michigan lawmakers will enjoy the artwork of two Central Michigan University students for the next year.

Works created by Brownstown junior Michelle Snay and Grandville senior Nichole Lockman were selected for the third annual Student Arts in the Legislature exhibition in the Anderson House and Billie S. Farnum Senate office buildings in Lansing.

The exhibit, which features two pieces of artwork from each of Michigan's 15 public universities, is a partnership between the Presidents Council of State Universities of Michigan and the state House and Senate.

"Having the exhibit in legislative office buildings establishes a stronger bond between the state universities and state government, because the legislators are constantly reminded of the universities and their high level of work," said Kathy Wilbur, CMU's vice president for government relations and public affairs.

Snay, who received a letter of recognition from Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop, R-Rochester, said her graphic design piece "Inevitable Tragedy," portrays "the moment in a dream when you wake up before something terrible happens." The piece will be on display in the Farnum Senate Office Building.

On display in the Anderson House Office Building is Lockman's untitled digital composite of several photographs representing "the way people see motion and color in dreams." She received a letter of recognition from House Speaker Andy Dillon, D-Redford Township.

The CMU students' pieces were selected internally in July from among assignments completed for art courses. College of Communication and Fine Arts Dean Sue Ann Martin then submitted the artwork to the exhibition.
