Neoclassical to contemporary woodwind works will be featured on an upcoming compact disc by three Central Michigan University faculty artists.

"Woodwind Echoes," scheduled for December release on CMU's White Pine Music recording label, will feature woodwind chamber music for flute, clarinet, saxophone and percussion from two CMU School of Music faculty ensembles, the Crescent Duo and the Eclectic Trio.

Joanna Cowan White, flute, and Kennen White, clarinet, perform as the Crescent Duo. John Nichol, saxophone, joins them to form the Eclectic Trio.

In preparing for "Woodwind Echoes," the musicians commissioned works from 10 composers over several years, including CMU music faculty members Rob Smith, Jose-Luis Maurtua and Scott Harding. Another music faculty member, Andrew Spencer, provided percussion on two of the pieces.

"People who like contemporary woodwind chamber music or are fans of the various composers on the disc will enjoy the music," said Kennen White. "Performers looking for exciting new works to perform also will appreciate the pieces."

The faculty artists will celebrate the upcoming release with a celebratory concert at 8 p.m. Nov. 13 in the Music Building's Staples Family Concert Hall. The concert will consist entirely of works or movements of works from "Woodwind Echoes." Tickets cost $3 for students and senior citizens and $5 for all others and can be purchased at the Central Box Office on the lower level of the Bovee University Center or by calling 989-774-3000 or 888-CMU-0111.
