Central Michigan University was selected by Military Advanced Education magazine as one of its 2007 Top Colleges and Universities. The listing includes 30 select colleges and universities that have programs and policies that are beneficial to the military community.

The editorial staff of Military Advanced Education and an independent panel of judges selected the top 30 "military-friendly" schools. Colleges and universities were selected based on 2007 military enrollment, military contracts, end-user feedback, military-friendly policies and new programs.

"All of us at CMU embrace our service to the military and are honored by the recognition of being one of the top 30 military-friendly schools," said Merodie Hancock, executive director and vice president of CMU's off-campus programs.

CMU has offered accredited degree programs at military installations since 1972. Today CMU offers classes online and at military bases throughout the country with 26 military contracts that include military bases, the Department of Defense, Veterans Affairs hospitals and Defense Acquisition University. CMU is the proud alma mater of more than 10,000 military graduates, including nearly 110 senior-level officers.

New CMU programs included in consideration for the top 30 listing include an online MBA and an online bachelor's degree with a public administration focus.

Along with offering convenient degree programs on U.S. military posts and bases for more than 35 years, CMU's off-campus programs offers a discounted tuition rate to military personnel, Department of Defense civilian employees, along with their spouses and dependents.

"CMU has a long and distinguished history of providing high quality educational opportunities for our military members and their families," said Hancock. "We appreciate the challenges of our military students and will continue to invest in both our programs and award-winning services, while maintaining minimal tuition increases to ensure our military and their families always receive the best education value available."
