A Central Michigan University graduate has been chosen by the Harvard Macy Institute to become a Harvard Macy Scholar for the Educators in the Health Professions Program, a fellowship designed to further the development of physicians, scientists and other health care professionals as educators.
Rupert M. Evans, an alumnus of the Doctorate in Health Administration program, was selected from a national pool of applicants to join the prestigious program, which is co-sponsored by the Harvard Medical School, the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Harvard Medical International.
The program combines five major themes: learning and teaching, curriculum, evaluation, leadership, and information technology. A select group of 55 health care professionals are equipped with the knowledge base and skills to enhance their expertise in both conducting an educational project of their own design and in taking a leadership role in educational activities at their home institutions.
Bernie Kerr, interim director of CMU's DHA program, describes Evans as an exceptional student and class leader.
"He is a superb representative and ambassador for our DHA program, and his selection for the Macy Scholar program is a wonderful opportunity for him as well as his employer," Kerr said. "Dr. Evans' achievement is an example of how CMU's distance DHA program is enabling experienced, talented health professionals to achieve goals that would not otherwise be possible without a doctoral degree."
Evans currently serves as an assistant professor and associate director of the Master of Hospital Administration program at Governors State University in Illinois. He will work on the development of a competency-based curriculum model for the Graduate Health Administration program at Governors State University.
