Central Michigan University's Associate Vice President of Human Resources, Maxine Kent, has been recognized for her dedication to supporting the efforts of the United Way of Isabella County as a recipient of the organization's Quality of Life Award.

"I was very surprised and honored," said Kent. "I am happy to have worked with so many dedicated individuals trying to make a difference in the lives of the people in Isabella County."

The award, which was established in 1989, is the highest level of recognition given by the United Way of Isabella County. It honors any individual or group of volunteers that makes a highly significant monetary or service contribution to benefit the community through the United Way. She was honored during the organization's annual campaign awards ceremony at the Comfort Inn in Mount Pleasant April 17.

Since 2000, Kent has worked to enhance the efforts of the United Way as president for two terms and by serving on various committees for the organization, including their executive, campaign, fund distribution and personnel committees. She spearheaded a strategic planning initiative and has helped to shape the United Way into more of a community impact organization. She also is very active in CMU's efforts to support United Way and has dedicated her time to the university's fundraising committee for several years.

Nichole Bliss, executive director of the United Way of Isabella County, believes that Kent is very deserving of the award.

"She has given her heart and soul to the community and is always willing to help out," said Bliss. "She has a tremendous heart."

As of this year, Kent has served her term limits as a board member with United Way, but plans to continue her support of the organization and the community. She currently serves on the board of Central Michigan Community Hospital.
