July 16/The 12th annual Central Michigan University Men's Basketball Alumni and Friends Golf Outing will take place July 16 at Bucks Run golf course, 1559 South Chippewa Road in Mount Pleasant. Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the outing will begin at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start. Cost is $125 per person, which includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, lunch at the turn, dinner following play, door prizes, a goody bag, contests, and silent and live auctions. July 16/As part of Central Michigan University's "Music on the Mall" summer concert series, University Events and WCZY-FM will host a performance by The Raisin Pickers at 7 p.m. July 16 on Warriner Mall, the lawn in front of Warriner Hall. The award-winning three-person string ensemble is known for their unique musical style blending the bluegrass and swing genres. Admission is free and open to the public; the performance will be moved to Plachta Auditorium in case of inclement weather. In addition, the performance will be broadcast live on WCZY-FM 104.3. July 17/Central Michigan University's Summer Theatre program will present performances of the play "The Odd Couple (Female Version)," by Neil Simon, at 7 p.m. July 17 at the Waterford Performing Arts Center, 1151 Scott Lake Road in Waterford. The revised version of the classic "Odd Couple" story tells the tale from the female perspective of main character Olive Madison, as the story begins with her inviting friends over for a night of Trivial Pursuit. Communication and dramatic arts faculty member Keeley Stanley-Bohn will serve as director. Tickets cost $5 for Waterford School District Gold Card members, $8 for senior citizens and $10 for all others and can be purchased by calling the Waterford Performing Arts Center's ticket line at 248-673-4205. July 17/CMU Public Broadcasting will host a Straits of Mackinac Summer Cruise July 17 on the Arnold Line's "Algomah," departing at 8 p.m. from Mackinaw City. The two-hour sunset cruise will feature hors d'oeuvres catered by Audie's Restaurant of Mackinaw City and "Songs of the Great Lakes" performed by Lee Murdock. Tickets cost $40 per person. July 18/Central Michigan University will host Health Professions Day and Science, Engineering and Technology Day July 18 at locations throughout CMU's campus. Health Professions Day check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Health Professions Building atrium. Science, Engineering and Technology Day check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Dow Science Complex lobby. At each event, participants will be offered three different sessions beginning at 10 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. During the day, prospective students can explore the programs offered by CMU's Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions and College of Science and Technology; tour CMU's campus; eat lunch in a CMU residential restaurant; and learn about a variety of student services and opportunities, including study abroad, volunteering, the Honors Program and more. July 18/Central Michigan University's Summer Theatre program will present a performance of the play "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)" at 7 p.m. July 18 at the Waterford Performing Arts Center, 1151 Scott Lake Road in Waterford. The play, which has been called "impossible to resist" by the New York Times, is a parodied compilation of Shakespeare's plays and features selections from each of his works. Communication and dramatic arts faculty member Steve Berglund will serve as director of the play, which was written by Jess Winfield, Adam Long and Daniel Singer. July 19/Central Michigan University's Summer Theatre program will present performances of the musical "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" at 7 p.m. July 19 at the Waterford Performing Arts Center, 1151 Scott Lake Road in Waterford. The production, based on the "Peanuts" comic strip by Charles Schulz, will explore the wild optimism and utter despair portrayed in the comic as seen through a day in the life of Charlie Brown. Communication and dramatic arts faculty member Timothy Connors will serve as director of the play, which features book, music and lyrics by Clark Gesner; additional dialogue by Michael Mayer; and additional music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa. July 20/Central Michigan University's School of Music will host the inaugural William H. Rivard Trombone Endowment Golf Outing, a fundraiser to help provide trombone scholarships for CMU students and to remember late CMU faculty member William Rivard, July 20 at The Pines Golf Course, 1022 Clubhouse Drive in Lake Isabella. Check-in will begin at 9 a.m., and the outing will begin at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start. Cost is $60 per person, which includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, as well as a post-outing dinner featuring prizes, a raffle and a silent auction. July 23/As part of Central Michigan University's "Music on the Mall" summer concert series, University Events and WCZY-FM will host a performance by the Alma College Percussion Ensemble at 7 p.m. July 23 on Warriner Mall, the lawn in front of Warriner Hall. The student group performs pieces from a variety of genres, including chamber, jazz, steel drum and world music. Admission is free and open to the public; the performance will be moved to Plachta Auditorium in case of inclement weather. In addition, the performance will be broadcast live on WCZY-FM 104.3. July 24/The Central Michigan University athletics department will host its annual Fran Koenig Memorial Women's Athletics Golf Outing, a fundraiser for the Fran Koenig and Jane McNamara Pioneers in Women's Athletics Endowment and women's sport programs at CMU, July 24 at Bucks Run golf course, 1559 South Chippewa Road in Mount Pleasant. Check-in and a continental breakfast will begin at 8 a.m., and the outing will begin at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. Cost is $125 per person, which includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, a registration gift, raffle prizes, a luncheon and more. Registration deadline is July 15. Ongoing events

July 16 and 30/Central Michigan University's recreation, parks and leisure services administration department offers open climbing on the A-Wall, its indoor climbing wall, from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays during the summer months. The wall is located in Room 112 of Finch Fieldhouse. Participants must sign an informed consent release waiver and pay a $7 fee to climb; participants under age 18 must have a parent or guardian sign the waiver. There is an additional charge for equipment rental. Student staff members are on hand to assist climbers. Through July 25/The exhibit "When France Claimed Michigan: 1608-1763" is on display through July 25 in Central Michigan University's Clarke Historical Library. The exhibit explores the period of time during which the French ruled Michigan, focusing on such subjects as Native American relations, European exploration of the Great Lakes, the fur trade, settlement patterns and the eventual end of French rule in North America. Through July 30/"A Genesis of Perception," a multisensory art exhibition by Central Michigan University senior Katherine LaBeau of Monroe, will be displayed July 9 through 30 in the Extended Hours Study of CMU's Charles V. Park Library. The exhibition, an interactive piece featuring experiences for all five senses, references a period in human life during which the abilities of the five senses are in an emergent or underdeveloped state. Through August 20/The exhibit "The Art of the Clarke: Selections from the Francis and Mary Lois Molson Collection of Children's Book Illustrations" is on display through Aug. 20 in the Baber Room of Central Michigan University's Charles V. Park Library. On loan from CMU's Clarke Historical Library, the exhibit features a variety of illustrations by such award-winning children's book illustrators as David Small, Michael Hague, Willy Pogany and Gennady Spirin. Through January 2009/"Beyond Barbie: Dolls, Dress and Culture in Global Perspective," an exhibit featuring more than 100 dolls dressed in traditional attire representing a variety of world cultures, is on display through January 2009 at Central Michigan University's Museum of Cultural and Natural History. In addition to the dolls, the exhibit also includes a children's educational activity room and special programs. The exhibition's elements are complemented by the museum's Web site, http://www.museum.cmich.edu, where visitors can view the dolls and learn about each one online.
