Native American history, art and traditions will be highlighted at Central Michigan University in observance of Native American Heritage Month in November. Most events are free and open to the public.
"We celebrate to recognize the intertribal cultures and to educate the public," said Colleen Green, director of Native American Programs and event organizer. "I hope students and the community take away a cultural experience which they can educate others on."
Keynote speaker, scholar and historian James McClurken will present "The Odawa Experience in Michigan" at 7 p.m. Nov. 5 in the Park Library Auditorium. McClurken has conducted hundreds of interviews with Tribe members to preserve cultural understanding of Native American lives during the 20th century.
