Oct. 26, 29 and 30/Trout Hall Council and Residence Hall Assembly will present Legends of the Dark, a haunted tour of Central Michigan University's campus, from 8 to 10:30 p.m. Oct. 26, 29 and 30. Tours will depart from the Bovee University Center's Down Under Food Court every 10 minutes, and the walking tour lasts 45 minutes. Ages 13 and up are welcome. Tickets cost $1 in advance at the Central Box Office on the lower level of the Bovee University Center or $3 at the door. All proceeds will benefit the West Midland Family Center. Oct. 27/Central Michigan University's Program Board will present "The Yellow Dress," a one-woman play regarding issues related to domestic violence and sexual aggression, at 8 p.m. Oct. 27 in Warriner Hall's Plachta Auditorium. Oct. 29 through Nov. 15/Central Michigan University's department of art will present its annual scholarship exhibition Oct. 29 through Nov. 15 in the West Gallery of CMU's University Art Gallery. An opening reception will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 1 at the gallery. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. Oct. 29/Central Michigan University's Speak Up, Speak Out: The Current Events Series will present a discussion titled "Domestic Policy: The Candidates and their Platforms" from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 29 in the Bovee University Center Auditorium. Oct. 31 through Dec. 16/"The Kyoto Calligraphy Lessons: Cyanotypes by Nicholas Hill" will be displayed Oct. 31 through Dec. 16 in the Baber Room of Central Michigan University's Charles V. Park Library. Hill uses drawing, printmaking and photographic techniques to create graphic compositions that reflect Japanese script and landscape. Admission is free and open to the public. Oct. 31 and Nov. 1/Central Michigan University's College of Communication and Fine Arts and College of Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences will host "Mischief Managed," a scholarly and performative conference on Harry Potter, from 6 p.m. to midnight Oct. 31 and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 1. Activities will include addressing issues concerning rights and justice for those who inhabit the magical world; various stations inspired by the Harry Potter books; and performances by wizard bands The Whomping Willows, Tonks and the Aurors, The Justin Finch Fletchly Band, and The Fred and George Band. Special presentations also will be given by William Todd-Jones, a British puppet designer, performer and environmental activist and "Tex" Harris, an expert on international affairs in the muggle realm. Admission is open to anyone 12 years of age or older; participants under age 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Seats are limited. Registration is $35 for students and $50 for nonstudents and for parents or guardians accompanying a participating minor. Nov. 1/Central Michigan University's Open Grove Society will host the Mid-Michigan Body and Soul Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 1 in Finch Fieldhouse. The event will feature holistic vendors, tarot card readings, a children's area, workshops, speakers and live entertainment. Admission is $5 for students and $6 for all others; children 5 years of age and under will be admitted free with a parent or guardian. Through Nov. 15/"Visual Narratives: Reading Between the Lines," an exhibition of narrative work in a variety of mediums, including book art, photography, printmaking and sculpture, is on display through Nov. 15 in the Main Gallery of Central Michigan University's University Art Gallery. Through Nov. 23/"Great Inspirations in Unexpected Locations," an exhibition of artwork by Central Michigan University students, faculty, staff, alumni and retirees, will be displayed Oct. 19 through Nov. 23 in residence hall lobbies and lounges across campus. The juried exhibition, which is sponsored by the Office of Residence Life, will feature a variety of mediums. Through Jan. 30, 2009/"The President and the American Imagination," an exhibition featuring selections from the library's extensive collection of more than 100 years of presidential campaign biographies, is on display through Jan. 30, 2009, at Central Michigan University's Clarke Historical Library. Through January 2009/"Beyond Barbie: Dolls, Dress and Culture in Global Perspective," an exhibit featuring more than 100 dolls dressed in traditional attire representing a variety of world cultures, is on display through January 2009 at Central Michigan University's Museum of Cultural and Natural History. In addition to the dolls, the exhibit also includes a children's educational activity room and special programs. The exhibition's elements are complemented by the museum's Web site, http://www.museum.cmich.edu, where visitors can view the dolls and learn about each one online.
