Elizabeth Alm
Elizabeth Alm has particular expertise at the interface of public health microbiology with environmental microbiology. A large focus of her research concerns the microbial quality of Great Lakes beaches with a particular emphasis on beach closings and the role of beach sand. At beaches she has been investigating the sources and fates of E. coli, bacterial pathogens, and avian influenza viruses, and the ecology of microbial communities in sand.
